This workshop is made up of two sessions – a tax and superannuation update as well as a special tax topic. The tax & superannuation update covers key tax and superannuation developments, including cases, legislation, ATO rulings, publications and other announcements – as well as administrative and regulatory changes. The special tax topic is informative and highly practical with each session exploring a different topical Australian tax issue to ensure that you keep up-to-date with the ever-changing and complex area of tax law.
Our Essential Tax & Super Update Workshop will be assessed for CA ANZ. ASIC and FASEA CPD hours. The expected total CPD hours to be allocated to this workshop is as follows:
- CA ANZ: Up to 27.5 hours
- FASEA: Up to 22 hours (General) & 5.5 hours (Technical Competence)
- ASIC: Up to 11 hour (Tax) & 5.5 hours (Superannuation) & 11 hour (General)

Melbourne Session
Peter McGinty, Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer, CA ANZ
Peter has degrees in commerce and law from the University of Melbourne. He has more than 30 years’ experience in a chartered practice that focused on tax issues affecting family businesses, small and medium enterprises and high net worth individuals. Peter is an experienced tax trainer and is well regarded for his practical approach to staff training.
Doncaster Session
Alan Leung, Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer, CA ANZ
Alan Leung FCA Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer Alan gained substantial global tax knowledge through working at Big Four accounting firms in Australia and overseas. Alan left EY in 2005 to start his own tax practice. As a registered tax agent, Alan advises clients – from multinational companies to wealthy individuals, across industries such as mining, health, hospitality, retail, property development, technology and recruitment, on strategic, operational and compliance matters. Alan has been a workshop leader, facilitator and lecturer in the CA program at Chartered Accountants ANZ since 2001.
New South Wales Sessions (Sydney & Epping/Baulkham Hills)
Bruce Thomas, Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer, CA ANZ
Bruce Thomas Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer Bruce has written and presented training on a wide range of topics, including the tax aspects of real estate transactions, fringe benefits tax (FBT) and salary packaging. Bruce was previously a tax manager with William Buck Chartered Accountants where he advised clients on the application of the goods and services tax, FBT and other government charges. He worked for the Australian Taxation Office for 17 years, including as a senior officer dealing with technical issues involving the GST.
Tristan Webb, Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer, CA ANZ
Tristan has more than 25 years’ tax experience in organisations such as the Australian Taxation Office, PwC, CCH and HLB Mann Judd. He was the national tax director at Crowe Horwath immediately before joining Chartered Accountants ANZ. His role required a good working knowledge of tax and risk issues for mid-tier accounting firms operating in the small to medium enterprise (SME) sector. Tristan’s expertise is in company and trust taxation for SMEs and high net worth clients.
