QLD Building Knowledge Series: Business Valuations

Wednesday, 11th September 2019
Topic: Distressed Business Valuations

Valuation analysts who become involved in insolvency-related assignments should expect their work to be subject to a high level of scrutiny.  They are frequently required to opine on the valuation of an entity that is currently the subject of, entering into or emerging from an insolvency event.  The outcome of the insolvency event may hinge on the analyst’s assessment of value or opinion on the merits of a proposed restructure.

This session will cover issues related to the valuation of businesses within an insolvency context, including:

• Reasons to engage a valuation professional;
• How the inputs and methodology of the valuation may change:
    - date of the valuation and use of hindsight;
    - standard of value and premise of value;
    - Factors to consider when selecting a methodology;
• Current analytical and disclosure issues that practitioners face; and
• Tips and traps relating to Instructions, assumptions and limitations.
