This session will illustrate the benefits and issues with forming a tax consolidated group for an SME client. The session will cover eligibility to form a group, the formation process and the cost setting process for assets of group members.
 
The pitfalls of forming a group will also be discussed.

  • Identify the advantages and disadvantages of forming a group;
  • Deal with the practicalities of forming a group (lodgements, tax payments, franking accounts and related issues)
  • Undertake the cost setting process for assets upon formation of the group.

Stephen Holmes, Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer, CA ANZ 

Stephen is a partner at WMS Chartered Accountants and has more than 20 years’ experience in providing specialist tax advice. He has concentrated on tax consulting and has provided tax advice to high-net-worth clients since 1994. Stephen also consults to other accounting firms on technical and/or complex tax matters. His particular focus is capital gains tax, employee share schemes, tax consolidation and international tax matters. He has extensive experience in managing tax disputes with the Australian Taxation Office.

 

James McPhedran, Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer, CA ANZ 

James has 18 years’ experience in the industry, including roles at the Big Four accounting firms and advisory roles at mid-tier firms. He has been an educator with Chartered Accountants ANZ for 9 years. His advanced knowledge of taxation and superannuation has allowed him to focus on small to medium enterprises and high net worth individuals. James holds a bachelor’s degree in law and economics from the University of Queensland and a Master of Taxation from the University of Sydney
