Special Tax topic: COVID-19: Rental property issues – Commercial, residential, and SMSF - July 2020

The COVID-19 pandemic is having a profound impact on the Australian economy. This Special Topic aims to address some of the rental property issues that may need to be considered, with a particular focus on the National Code of Conduct for Landlords.

The session explores the National Code of Conduct which allows landlords and their tenants to negotiate temporary changes to existing leases on a good faith basis during the COVID-19 pandemic.

It considers the impacts of the Code from the perspective of both commercial and residential leases. It also considers the tax issues for rental properties generally, and the unique issues that arise at this time when a rental property is owned by a SMSF.
