Deborah Jenkins

As Deputy Commissioner Small Business at the ATO, Deborah is responsible for managing the Goods and Service Tax (GST) product and the ATO’s Black Economy program. Together with her team, she works closely with tax practitioners, businesses and industry bodies to help small businesses thrive. She has a particular interest in the benefits achieved through digital products and services. Deborah has previously been named as one of the International Tax Review Leaders for Australia and has worked extensively in Europe and New Zealand.


Scott Treatt

Scott is currently acting Deputy Commissioner of Review and Dispute Resolution at the ATO. He previously lectured, and was National Course Convener for, the Taxation Institute of Australia’s Structured Education program. A regular presenter at industry seminars and conferences, Scott has specialised in tax since 1997 and has extensive experience in large second tier and Big 4 accounting firms, as well as the ATO. His deep and wide technical knowledge, combined with commercial understanding, enables Scott to resolve tax issues in a practical and collaborative manner.


Justin Smirk

Justin has over 17 years' experience in Financial Markets. He started his early career training at the Reserve Bank of Australia and has been with Westpac since 1999. During this time, Scott has worked in Westpac’s London office and has taken a secondment as Chief Economist at St George Bank. Justin’s areas of interest are the international economy, commodity markets and the resources sector. He is also known for his regular analysis of the Australian labour market and prices.


Kaylene Hubbard CA

Kaylene is a Tax Partner in the Greater Western Sydney office of KPMG. She works with corporates, including ASX listed entities, private owners, family groups and their businesses across a wide range of industries to grow, create and protect value. Her expertise includes developing appropriate business structures and funding arrangements, capital management, mergers and acquisitions, business restructures and assisting clients in their dealings with the Australian Taxation Office. Kaylene has a particular interest and expertise in the not-for-profit and club sector, working with a number of high profile sporting clubs and charities and assisting a number of charities in successfully seeking deductible gift recipient status and with their ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements. Kaylene has previously been a Tax Partner at Deloitte and has over 20 years experience in providing tax advice to clients.


Ken Mansell

Ken is a highly regarded and experienced tax trainer who has worked alongside Chartered Accountants ANZ for more than 10 years. He has both private practice and public sector experience and has been an adviser on tax policy at the Australian Treasury for more than 11 years. Ken has also advised the Solomon Islands government and has served on the secretariat of the Henry Ttax Review. His experience also includes more than four years as Head of Taxation at the Seven Network Group.


Tony Negline CA

Tony has been Superannuation Leader at Chartered Accountants Australia and New Zealand since 2015. He has 30 years’ experience in the financial services industry, is the author of The Essential SMSF Guide, and for over 12 years wrote a weekly column for The Australian. He is a Chartered Accountant and CA SMSF Specialist and holds a Bachelor of Arts and Graduate Diploma in Business Systems. Tony also has a Diploma in Journalism and an Advanced Diploma of Financial Services (Superannuation). He is a Fellow of the Financial Services Institute of Australasia (FINSIA) and a specialist member of the SMSF Association.


Michael Croker

Michael leads CA ANZ’s taxation policy and advocacy work with federal and state governments, and regulatory bodies in Australia. He has previously led the team that developed the CA ANZ’s tax, superannuation and financial advisory services training program. Prior to joining this, he was responsible for the corporate tax law syllabus within PwC Australia. Michael has also lectured on tax at postgraduate level for The University of Sydney.


Vanessa Priest CA

Vanessa is currently a Partner at Baskin Clarke Priest and prior to this, a Partner at Deloitte Private, BDO and Crowe Horwath. She is a Chartered Accountant and has degrees in teaching and commerce (majoring in Accounting and Economics) and a Masters in Tax Law. Vanessa has more than 20 years' experience as a tax specialist and has a strong interest in the tax and succession issues faced by privately-owned enterprises and family groups. She has extensive knowledge in areas such as tax structuring, cross border issues, asset acquisitions and divestments, and tax issues arising for trusts.



Linda Mackellar

Linda Mackellar initially commenced a Commerce/Law degree at the University of New South Wales before transferring to the University of New England in Armidale to study Commerce. Part-way through her studies, Linda was recruited to join Boyce Chartered Accountants as a cadet in the Moree office, commencing in this role in November 1999. Linda continued her studies with UNE via distance education and was awarded a Bachelor of Commerce in December 2000. Linda was appointed to the firm’s Tax Focus Group in 2002 and in January 2003 she completed her professional year to become a Chartered Accountant. Linda is motivated by her aim to help clients achieve their financial goals. She gains great satisfaction from making a difference to a client’s business and increasing their personal wealth.

Brett Young FCA

Brett Young is a barrister specialising in taxation law and commercial law at the NSW Bar and commenced practising as a barrister in 2003. Brett has practised as a tax advisor since 1994. Brett is also a Fellow Chartered Accountant (FCA). Brett's primary area of practise is resolving tax disputes for taxpayers in the Australian economy. Brett advises and represents taxpayers in all areas of taxation law, including income tax, stamp duty, GST, land tax and other Federal and State revenue laws. Brett appears in a variety of Federal Court, Administrative Appeals Tribunal, NSW Supreme Court matters. Brett acts for a broad range of taxpayers - including multinational corporations, small-to-medium businesses and high net worth individuals.
