Description
Session 1 - Practical Strategies to Overcome Overwhelm - Wednesday, 3 February 2027
For many professionals, overwhelm can build gradually. Workloads increase, client demands continue, priorities compete, and the mind becomes crowded with everything that needs attention.
Everything can start to feel “too much”, “out of control”, or “I’m drowning” and “I have so much to do”!
When that happens, it becomes harder to think clearly, decide what matters most, switch off, or even know where to start.
Overwhelm is often more than being busy and having too much to do. It can also be intensified by the pressure we place on ourselves - to keep up, get everything right, respond quickly, meet everyone’s expectations, or carry more than is realistically sustainable.
This session explores overwhelm from the inside out.
Participants will consider how their emotional and physiological state, thinking patterns, expectations and personal boundaries influence their experience of pressure.
They will learn practical ways to slow down, reduce the internal noise, regain perspective and break what feels overwhelming into smaller, more manageable parts. A simple practical tool will help participants identify where the pressure is really coming from, work out what matters most, and focus on the next useful step rather than trying to solve everything at once.
The session will also explore how to recognise overwhelm earlier and proactively protect capacity, so that wellbeing and performance can be sustained over time.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Recognise when they are becoming overwhelmed.
- Understand how stress can affect the way they think and respond.
- Identify what is really contributing to their sense of overwhelm.
- Use practical techniques to regain calm, clarity and perspective.
- Learn an easy tool to break down overwhelm and clarify what matters most.
- Identify the next useful step and take action.
- Use simple boundaries and habits to better protect their capacity.
Session 2 - Strong Decision Making - Wednesday, 10 February 2027
As the profession adapts to rapid advances in AI, technology and new ways of working, accountants are being asked to make important decisions with more information, less certainty and increasing pressure.
For capable, thoughtful professionals, this can create a very human challenge: the tendency to overthink, delay or second-guess decisions, especially when the stakes feel high or there is no obvious right answer.
With so much information readily available, continuing to research, analyse or ask AI for another answer can sometimes become a way of postponing the moment of choice.
This session explores decision-making from the inside out.
Participants will consider how their emotional and physiological state, assumptions, values and level of self-trust influence the decisions they make.
They will learn practical ways to slow down, create enough internal space to think clearly, reconnect with what matters most, and recognise when they already have enough information to move forward.
The focus is on developing greater trust in your own judgement, taking thoughtful action without needing to know the whole path, and building confidence through small steps, learning and adjustment.
Learning outcomes
By the end of the session, participants will be able to:
- Recognise how stress, emotional state and unconscious assumptions can influence decision-making.
- Identify when further research, analysis or use of AI is genuinely useful, and when it may be contributing to overthinking or decision delay.
- Clarify the values and priorities that need to guide a particular decision.
- Use practical techniques to create a calmer, clearer internal state before making important decisions.
- Recognise when they have enough information to take the next appropriate step.
- Build greater self-trust and confidence
