Public Practice Essentials – Firm Pathway

Background

An important mechanism to protect the reputation of CA ANZ and its members is the requirement for CA ANZ members who are principals in public practice to hold a Certificate of Public Practice (CPP).

Prior to CA ANZ granting a CPP, the CA ANZ Public Practice Program (PPP) or an alternative course approved by CA ANZ must be completed by the member. The PPP currently consists of 18 hours of CPD spread across digital learning and a live workshop. For several years, large firms across Australia and New Zealand have been granted a full exemption from the PPP.

CA ANZ have reviewed the learning requirements for new principals in public practice. From 1 July 2026, CA ANZ will no longer provide firm exemptions from the PPP. Going forward, all new principals seeking a CPP will be required to complete their internal partnership program, as well as this online course, focused on public practice leadership requirements for CA ANZ members. We believe this new approach is vital to setting standardised leadership training and reinforcing trust in our profession.
