Ethical sustainability communication (Australia)

This intermediate micro course is designed for finance professionals who support their clients and organisations to communicate accurately and clearly about sustainability. They have the skills to determine accurate numbers that can be used in promotional claims, and to help drive the organisation to improve the sustainability of their practice  

Finance professionals also have the skills to detect fraud – if they know what to look for - and they can use this to identify greenwashing fraud too. We would like to use examples of greenwashing fraud in this micro course.

As a field, sustainability is a new and interesting area for finance professionals. It’s an area that requires a good deal of collaboration with other groups, such as scientists, operations and marketing. Finance professionals can play an important role in helping organisations to move towards sustainable operations, including being transparent and accurate in communications, and using this accuracy to drive improvements.

On successful completion of this micro course, you’ll be able to:

• Recognise the obligation of organisations and finance professionals to communicate about sustainability ethically and in line with recognised reporting and regulatory standards
• Recognise that effective, ethical sustainability communication creates benefits and opportunities for individuals and organisations, both internal and external
• Identify forms of greenwashing and impact washing, and apply tools to ensure communication about sustainability initiatives is legal and ethical
• Develop an effective, ethical sustainability communications strategy with the Board or key stakeholders as part of an overall ESG action plan.
