A family discretionary trust can be an effective and flexible structure when used appropriately. One important mechanism to optimise its benefits is the Family Trust Election (FTE). This session provides participants with a practical understanding of when an FTE is required, when it may be unnecessary, and the potential long-term implications of making such an election—particularly in light of recent ATO activity. It also examines the rationale for and against making an Interposed Entity Election (IEE), equipping participants to navigate the strategic considerations involved in these decisions.
