Description
AI is already embedded in many of the tools accounting firms use every day, often processing client data in the background, whether intentionally used or not. But are you meeting your professional obligations?
Since 1 January 2025, APES 110 has imposed specific requirements on Chartered Accountants when AI is used in client work. With further guidance from the Tax Practitioners Board, upcoming Privacy Act changes, and regulatory expectations such as APRA CPS 230, the compliance landscape is evolving quickly, and many firms are not yet prepared.
This practical session provides a clear overview of your current obligations and highlights where common risks may exist, including whether your engagement terms adequately address the use of AI.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of this session, you will be able to:
• Explain your obligations when using AI under APES 110, TPB D62/2026, the Privacy Act, and APRA CPS 230
• Identify how commonly used platforms (e.g. Xero, MYOB, Microsoft 365 Copilot) may process client data using AI
• Recognise potential confidentiality and consent risks in your current engagement terms
• Identify practical steps to support compliance with evolving AI-related requirements
• Apply strategies to strengthen client safeguards and reduce professional risk
