Foundations of Tax 2023-24 - Session 14: Companies: Introduction and imputation



This topic provides an introduction to company structures used in a business. It also provides an introduction to the imputation system.

  • Critique the performance of a company business structure in respect of the common business structuring considerations
  • Explain the taxation implications arising when a company carries on a business
  • Explain the taxation implications when profits are extracted from a company (imputation)
  • Determine whether a refund of GST is payable.

Bruce Thomas, Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer, CA ANZ

Bruce was previously a tax manager with William Buck Chartered Accountants where he advised clients on the application of the goods and services tax, FBT and other government charges. 

 

He worked for the Australian Taxation Office for 17 years, including as a senior officer dealing with technical issues involving the GST. Bruce has been a trainer with CA ANZ for over 18 years.
