Foundations of Tax series 2023-24 - Part 2
The 12-part Foundations of Tax Series covers the tax and compliance issues associated with different types of taxpayers such as sole traders, joint ventures, companies, partnerships and trusts structures.
This series provides a firm understanding of the essentials to give you a great head-start as a tax professional. This series is also perfect as a refresher, to make sure you’re on top of the latest changes.
This series is presented by our team of dedicated senior tax trainers. Each informative and highly practical session will explore a fundamental tax topic. Sessions are 1 hour each, giving you 12 hours of CPD for the full series.
You will be sent a recording link and supporting materials for the individual topics throughout the year.

Peter McGinty, Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer, CA ANZ
Peter has degrees in commerce and law from the University of Melbourne. He has more than 39 years’ experience in a chartered practice that focused on tax issues affecting family businesses, small and medium enterprises and high net worth individuals.
Peter has been a trainer with CA ANZ for over 15 years and is highly regarded for his practical approach to training and his ability to simplify complex tax issues. He has maintained a client resign rate of over 90% for 15 consecutive years.
James McPhedran, Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer, CA ANZ
James has 18 years' experience in the industry, including roles at the Big Four accounting firms and advisory roles at mid-tier firms. He has been a trainer with CA ANZ for over 11 years and has maintained a client resign rate of more than 90% for 11 consecutive years.
His advanced knowledge of taxation and superannuation has allowed him to focus on SMEs and high net worth individuals. James holds a bachelor's degree in law and economics from the University of Queensland and a Masters of Taxation from the University of Sydney.
Bruce Thomas, Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer, CA ANZ
Bruce was previously a tax manager with William Buck Chartered Accountants where he advised clients on the application of the goods and services tax, FBT and other government charges.
He worked for the Australian Taxation Office for 17 years, including as a senior officer dealing with technical issues involving the GST. Bruce has been a trainer with CA ANZ for over 18 years.
Lydia Kovacevich, Senior Tax and Superannuation Trainer, CA ANZ
Lydia has over 20 years of experience in the tax and accounting industry working for a Big Four accounting firm, a second-tier public practice firm, a global oil and gas service company, a tax training organisation and the Australian Taxation Office. During this time Lydia gained extensive experience advising tax and accounting matters for a range of entities in different industries and gained a wealth of experience in writing tax.
Lydia has strong analytical and technical abilities and is very passionate about tax education.

The Foundations of Tax series has been assessed for CA ANZ and should meet the Tax Practitioners Board's CPD requirements. The allocation of CPD hours is as follows:
